Trainings
We can arrange technical trainings and give advice about oils and greases, lubricants and their use. The following are only a few relevant themes, but we can review all your questions on equipment or automotive lubricants, product optimization and selection of the target application.
About base oils
Lubricants were found in nature since ancient times. Business of oil-based lubricant began in the mid 1800s. The initial oil processing was limited to separation by boiling point. Most people know that a base oil is the key element in the production of lubricants. Here you will learn about the different types of base oils and base oil production.
About oil and lubricant additives
At the production stage, base oils are aimed for lubrication products. It takes a great number of quality improvement and purification stages that help to apply properties for the further use. Additives can also improve the oil properties in cold increase the viscosity index and resistance to oxidation, protection from pressure, wear, corrosion and foaming. According to oil function it is conditionally divided into three groups, as some of them can perform several functions: modifying the oil properties, protecting oil and protecting surface.
About engine oil types
Oil must provide the functionality of the engine, which has already become the main structural element in modern engine development and improving. The modern engine oil has raised a lot of requirements, such as:
- Save fuel;
- Save engine parts from wear and tear;
- Provide cold start;
- Transmit power;
- Clean inside the engine;
- Not to damage catalyst;
- Not to accumulate ash deposits in the filter (DPF);
- Not oxidize in high temperature;
- Provide low consumption;
- Ensure turbine functioning.
About oil and lubricant specifications
API, ACEA, DIN major classifications and their interpretation.
All global oil manufacturers test their products in various international and national quality institutions of which the best known are the API (American Petroleum Institute) and ACEA (Association des Constructeurs Europeens d’Automobiles).
About transmission oils
„SAE“ (Society of Automotive Engineers) is the classification system of SAE Association that separates engine and transmission oils according to their viscosity. This system includes two groups: seasonal oils with one viscosity index marked with letter W (Winter) or without it, and all-season oils which are marked by bot viscosity indexes. Transmission oil classification indexes can be: SAE 70W, SAE 75W, SAE 80W, SAE 85W, SAE 90, SAE 140, SAE 250 or SAE 75W-80, SAE 75W-90, SAE 75W-140, SAE 80W-90, SAE 80W-140, SAE 85W-90.
What does letters “EP” means?
“EP“ means the extreme pressure and is linked to additive used in transmission oils. This additive is designed for metal surface protection against mutual contact. Normally, “EP” additives contain sulphur and phosphorus. A compound of these elements acts on the metal surface on extreme pressure and high temperature points to compose a soft protective chemical layer. Due to sierra, transmission oil gains a characteristic odor.
About plastic grease compatibility
If two greases are mixed with the same thickener, usually there are no problems regarding compatibility of grease. However, this may not the same all the time because of other additives used in different lubricants may cause problems due to incompatibility, especially if they are constantly operating to high speed and/ or high temperature conditions.
